The Paul Lab has joined the Zubris Lab (Villanova) and Professor Timothy Dudley (University of Minnesota – Crookston) to take their research online this summer due to the pandemic. Dr. Dudley has been a long time collaborator of both Dr. Paul and Dr. Zubris, carrying out all computational modeling of their research. This summer, thanks to generous funding from the Center for Research and Fellowships as well as the Villanova Department of Chemistry, we are establishing our first cohort of training in these computational methods to further advance our research.
Mia Hess (BS, 2022), Katherine Moffa (BS, 2023), and David Sokoloski (BS, 2022) all earned competitive Villanova Undergraduate Research Fellowships for the Summer of 2020! This is a record number of summer fellowships earned by students in the lab. Congratulations to all three fo them for the hard work and tremendous accomplishments!
Kaitlyn Benson is spending the summer at Tulane University, working with Professor Russell Schmehl as part of our collaborative NSF grant. She will looking at transient absorbance spectroscopy of her complexes that she’s synthesized at Villanova.
Welcome to the lab Katherine Moffa (BS, 2023)! We’re so happy you joined the team!
Congratulations to Charlotte Montgomery (BS, 2020) on her graduation and thesis defense! She’s moving on to earn her PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Go Heels!
Congratulations to Claire Teahan (BS, 2019; MS, 2020) on her graduation and MS thesis defense! She’ll be teaching at a private school in Manhattan next year!
Dr. Paul has been awarded the ACS Philadelphia Section Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching! Congratulations on the wonderful news!
Liam Jowett (BS, 2021) joined the lab as a visiting student from UCD-Dublin. We are looking forward to a fun semester! Welcome Liam!
2019
The Paul lab visited SUNY-StonyBrook and Brookhaven National Laboratories for a day long tour with hosts Professors Amy Marschilok, Esther Takeuchi, Ken Takeuchi, and their laboratory. Dr. Paul gave a talk on the lab’s research. Thank you for the wonderful visit!
Dr. Paul has been awarded a collaborative NSF grant with Professor Russell Schmehl at Tulane University! The grant brings in $160,806 to Villanova University to study Coupled Proton/Electron Transfer Reactions of Excited States. The work will train several undergraduate students as well as allow them to take their research to a further level studying excited state transient spectroscopy during summer research experiences at Tulane University. We are looking forward to working with Dr. Schmehl over the coming years!
Mia Hess (BS, 2022) and David Sokoloski (BS, 2022) have joined the Paul Lab! We look forward to working together!
Kaitlyn Benson (BS, 2021) and Jacqueline Stash (MS, 2019) are both coauthors on a manuscript published in the Journal of Physical Chemistry C in a collaborative project with Professor Russell Schmehl at Tulane University. The work is titled: Direct observation of sequential electron and proton transfer in Excited-State ET/PT reactions. Congratulations Kate and Jackie!
